Fuel the Fire Finds: Joey Green's 'Dive Bar' is a Tribute to Joe Diffie and Turning the Amp to 11
Joey Green, “Dive Bar”
It starts with a gradual entry, just vocals and an acoustic guitar, but you can tell from the raw edge in the delivery that this song is about to rock. Then, immediately, it does. The electric guitars and slamming drums kick in, and the line between rock and roll and country gets completely eviscerated. With its undeniable groove and a blistering guitar solo, "Dive Bar" is the absolute essence of the Friday Night Fire "Tailgate Anthems" vibe wrapped into a single song. This could be the poster song for the entire playlist.
A Modern Tribute to Joe Diffie
The track's classic, party-ready feel comes from a place of genuine respect for a country legend. The song's origin is a perfect "tip of the hat" to one of the greats.
“The song came from the early days of COVID, right after the great Joe Diffie passed away,” Joey explains. “I was listening to a lot of Diffie, specifically ‘Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox (If I Die).’ I wanted to create a modern tribute to the song, and the specific bar I used as the inspiration was none other than Alley Pub in Nashville.”
Rage Against the Jukebox
That blend of rock and country is no accident; it's just who Joey Green is. When asked how he blends the heavier rock elements with his country sound, his answer was simple.
“That’s a tough question…I guess really it's as simple as taking the Les Paul and turning the amp all the way up!” he says. “Both genres are so important to me and what I do. Sometimes I may lean more country, sometimes I lean more rock, but in the end I’m just going to be who I am, a little mix of both!”
His list of inspirations perfectly explains the track's unique energy, ranging from modern country to 90s rock royalty. “For country, I’d say my inspirations are Keith Urban and Pat Green,” he shares. “For rock, it’s a bit more out there. I love Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave, but you can't forget the classics like Aerosmith!”
"Let's Just Party!"
The song's "party vibe" was built-in from the very first spark of creation. “The guitar riff and lyrical hook kind of came simultaneously,” Joey recalls. “It caught my attention right away, and I just kind of built from there. Really, the party vibe was always going to be there, but it was the riff and hook that brought it to life.”
Ultimately, the song's mission is simple and clear: get you fired up. “Really, I just hope the song gets people pumped up to have a good time. That’s what I’m all about,” he says. “It’s the vibe when I’m at the local dive, and it’s the vibe when I’m up on stage playing. There’s a time and a place for emotional songs, for this one; let’s just party!”
BBQ and a Brew for Santa
While "Dive Bar" is a perfect tailgate anthem, Joey's next release is bringing that same energy to a different kind of party. “So next I got a Christmas song coming out,” he reveals. “We’re bringing the beer in hand, country style, to the holiday season this year. Leaving out BBQ and an ice-cold brew for Santa. After that, I got another rock and roller coming, so definitely be on the lookout for both!”
