The First Cycle Is Open

This collection is going to be full of songs eventually — up to five, every month, each one with a real write-up on why it made the cut. Right now it's empty, because the first cycle hasn't closed yet. This post is here instead, to explain what's about to happen and why.
What Jukebox actually is
Every month, I open submissions for songs — any genre, AI-assisted or otherwise. I listen to every single one, in full, as they come in through the month. Up to five get featured here with a real write-up. Everyone else gets the collective note: what separated the tracks that held my attention, no names attached.
That's the whole mechanism. No lottery, no algorithm, no third party deciding what I hear.
The part that matters most
Submitting costs $8, or $30 if you want guaranteed written feedback regardless of outcome. I want to be direct about what that money does and doesn't buy, because this is the one place a curation product usually gets vague on purpose:
Featured songs are selected from paid submissions. Payment is required to submit and does not influence or guarantee selection; features are the curator's editorial choice alone.
Paying more never improves your odds. It buys you my written notes either way. That's the entire difference between the two tiers, and it's the whole reason the disclosure above exists on the submission page in plain text instead of buried somewhere.
Why the collective note matters even if you're not featured
Five songs a month isn't a lot. Most people who submit won't see their track here, and I'd rather say that up front than let anyone find out the hard way. But nobody walks away with nothing. The collective note is a real piece of writing about what separated the songs that held my attention from the ones that didn't — patterns, not verdicts on any individual entry. It's the same kind of pattern-level teaching that runs through everything else here, just applied to a fresh batch of songs every month instead of one track at a time.
The actual date
Submissions close the 2nd Friday of the month. Features publish the 3rd Friday. For this first cycle, that's September 11 and September 18.
