Smooth on the surface, sharp underneath. This one rewards a second listen with the lyrics up front.
What it's about
This is a political song, and it doesn't hide it. The subject is power that never wears a crown: money, influence, and control operating behind good suits, private deals, and a steady supply of distraction. By the chorus the song has stopped asking how that system works and started naming it, and the picture it lands on is one where power keeps feeding itself while everyday life gets thinner.
What I heard
A really smooth track, and a really well-crafted one. The lyrics are smart, which is rarer than it should be in dance music, and they're doing real work instead of riding the beat. The sound itself is a highlight: lots of great low end, lots of great top end, and every instrument sitting in its own space so nothing crowds anything else. It reads as melodic house with a slap-house edge, and the production holds up to that comparison.
Where it landed
"Oligarchy" has been added to Off Ramp: Electronic and Dance, where it will stay for at least four weeks.
